Where we are
We are Australia’s Pinot Coast, perched on the mainland’s southernmost edge, spanning around 750km of coastline from Geelong to the Mornington Peninsula right through to Gippsland where the Bass Strait meets the Tasman Sea. We are easily accessible via Melbourne, from the west via the Great Ocean Road or from the East en route from the northern states.
WHAT WE’RE KNOWN FOR
World-class maritime Pinot Noir.
Our ocean’s edge position on the cool southeast maritime corner of Australia provides the ideal ripening conditions for the delicate, seductive Pinot Noir grape; producing a fresh, pristine, diverse, layered, subtle and complex Pinot.
What makes us something worth travelling for
We are a well awarded wine destination and the longest wine-producing coastline in Australia, featuring over 260 wineries and over 140 cellar doors; all dotted along the wilful, spectacular southernmost edge of the mainland. We offer the chance to see the great Australian coast, but not as the world knows it – instead raw, majestic, cool and wild, and home to a diversity of unique land and marine wildlife, including our unique Little Penguin colony at Philip Island, as well as aquatic experiences and indulgent, fresh, maritime cuisine.
Our independent producers provide a warm but sophisticated, artisan dining and drinking experience, and our culinary prowess has seen us awarded more Chef’s Hats than any other regional destination in Victoria.

Geelong
The coastal city of Geelong is an hour’s drive west of Melbourne along the western edge of Port Phillip Bay. It is also accessible from the iconic Great Ocean Road.
Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula is located an hour south-east of Melbourne. It is also connected to Geelong via a ferry service that operates between Sorrento and Queenscliff.
Gippsland
Drive a little over two hours east of Melbourne to reach the heart of Gippsland, which is also on the Sydney to Melbourne coastal touring route for visitors exploring Australia by car.
The Pinot Coast project would not be possible without the generous support of Wine Australia, the Victorian Government and our wider sector partners. It is part of the Australian Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package and the Victorian Government’s Wine Industry Development Strategy funding.
